Coastal Carolina stands in solidarity with sexual violence victims

On Oct. 3, the community at Coastal Carolina University is taking back the night by marching and rallying in solidarity for sexual violence victims.

Take Back the Night will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. It will be an evening filled with powerful words and many emotions, according to organizers.

The event started in 2006 and was created for two purposes, according to Chris Donevant-Haines, assistant director of Wellness Outreach.

“The message to the school and the community is: we care, we believe you and we are here to help.” Donevant- Haines stated.

She said every year it looks different, but their purpose remains the same.

The event is broken down into several parts and is eventually opened up to those who have a story to tell.

It serves to bring awareness to sexual violence, as well as acknowledge and show sexual assault survivors support.

The march begins at the Lib Jackson Student Union Courtyard, through HTC, across Prince Lawn before ending back in the Student Union.

Students are encouraged to march, chant and create signs to hold throughout the march.
