Coastal Volleyball wins 2017 Sun Belt Tournament Championship

Chanticleer Volleyball brought home their fourth conference ring for the second year in a row. This made it their fourth consecutive conference championship that the ladies have won. The Chanticleers first faced off against the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Nov. 18, winning in four sets. The set scores were 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20. The Chanticleers had 62 kills, 5 aces, 67 digs and 9 blocks. Leading the Chanticleers in kills was Leah Hardeman with 19. Hardeman also had 1 ace, 13 digs and 3 blocks. Following Hardeman was Kyla Manning with 14 kills, 1 ace, 9 digs and 1 block. They hit the court again on Nov. 19 to play the Texas State Bobcats who beat the Chanticleers at home during the regular season in three sets. The Chanticleers redeemed themselves and won the championship in four sets; 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15. The Chanticleers had 59 kills, 4 aces, 71 digs and 12 blocks. Leading the Chanticleers again was Leah Hardeman with 21 kills, 16 digs, 1 block, and 2 block assists. Following Hardeman was Kyla Manning with 19 kills, 2 blocks and 2 block assists. While winning the conference, the Chanticleers have also walked home with several other awards. Leah Hardeman won Sun Belt Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference member. Sydney Alvis was voted Second Team All-Conference member, while their coach Jozef Forman won Sun Belt Coach of the Year. The Chanticleers will be playing #9 Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Division I Volleyball championship on Dec. 1 at 8 p.m.
