New dining option on campus to ‘Freshen’ up CCU

At the beginning of the 2018 Spring semester, Coastal Carolina students were introduced to a new dining option at CINO Grille in the Lib Jackson Student Union: Freshens Fresh Food Studio.

Freshens is a healthy “fast casual” concept, which offers prepared to order food inspired by fresh ingredients, as well as their signature fresh blended smoothies and frozen yogurt.

Freshens replaced the well-known and popular Subway.

While students were sad to see the sub sandwich chain leave campus, students quickly embraced the new restaurant and are enjoying the newest addition to CINO Grille.

Freshman Liana Robbins talked about how that while the lines may be long, it is worth the wait.

“I was excited because it looked like it was going to be healthier for people,” said Robbins. “I have been to Freshens a good number of times and had to wait over an hour but it is so good. I especially like getting the Pesto Chicken Flatbread and a Jamaican Jammer Smoothie.”

Freshens offers meal swipe options for students, something that Subway didn’t offer.

“I think that is what makes Freshens a great addition,” said Robbins. “We can use meal swipes and not have to use our CINO Cash.”

While many students are enjoying the latest addition on campus, there are some who still do not see the hype.

Sophomore Darnasia Jenkins wasn’t all that excited for the new dining option on campus.

“It was just another good option,” said Jenkins. “I have only been twice but my favorite thing so far is the four-cheese mac n’ cheese. I just prefer the other options that CINO Grille has to offer.”
