CCU Women's Basketball survives App State, 73-68

In their second overtime game of the season, Coastal Carolina women's basketball took survived a late push from Appalachian State winning 73-68 on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the HTC Center.
Senior guard Jas Adams led the game with 29 points. Sophomore guard Dj Williams got her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Breelyn Blanding had 11 points and Alise Davis had 10.
In the first quarter, Coastal moved the ball and played good basketball, ending the first quarter with a 15-5 lead.
The Chants limited App State to two baskets and one made free throw and the team finished the first quarter on a 10-2 run. Adams scored seven of those 10 points.
Coastal scored eight unanswered points and went up by as many as 11, but App State went on their own run and made it a two-possession game. Adams and Williams ended App State’s run with back-to-back baskets. App State would then finish off the half with six straight points to have the halftime score at 29-26.
App State went on a 12-4 run and took their first lead of the game late in the third quarter. Efforts from Adams at the free throw line and three more points from the Chants put the score at 42-38 going into the fourth quarter.
Sophomore forward Naheria Hamilton and Adams both contributed to Coastal’s 12-2 run in the first four minutes in the fourth quarter, and the Chants went up double figures early. App State returned the favor and went on their own run of 15-6 that carried over into the final minute of the fourth quarter.
After Adams split a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining, App State was able to call a timeout and get something going to send the game into overtime.
Coastal only allowed App State three baskets in overtime and Adams and Williams had all 12 of the overtime points.
The Chanticleers are now 12-12 overall and 6-7 in conference play and remain at number eight in the conference.
Coastal will return back at the HTC Center in their final home games of the season on Thursday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 17 against Troy and South Alabama.
