Coastal women's lacrosse falls in season opener

The Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse team lost 16-7 in their 2018 season opener against Louisville on Saturday, Feb. 24 in Louisville, KY.

The Cardinals scored the first five goals of the game in an eight-minute span before redshirt junior Haley Kyger scored the Chanticleers first goal with 13:38 left in the first half.

Louisville would tack on three more runs to make it 8-1 with 4:13 left in the half but Coastal scored three goals in the final three minutes to get within four goals at the end of the first half.

Four goals would be as close as Coastal could get to the Cardinals as Louisville was just too much for the Chanticleers. Louisville would score eight goals in the second half compared to Coastal’s three.

Haley Kyger and Haley Alexander would both score two goals while Sophie Crowther notched a goal and an assist in the 16-7 loss on Saturday.

The Chanticleers return to action on Feb. 28 to take on Campbell at 4 p.m. in Buies Creek, NC.
