Coastal baseball crushes Wake Forest, 19-3

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers baseball cruised to a 19-3 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Wednesday, Mar 7 at Springs Brooks Stadium.
The Chanticleers and Deacons were tied at three runs apiece going into the bottom of the fourth inning when Coastal opened the flood gates and scored nine runs.
After Coastal loaded the bases, Kyle Skeels doubled to left field and scored three runs in the process to make it 6-3 in favor of the Chanticleers. Two pitches later, Zach Beirmann hit a two-run home run to bring in Kyle Skeels and increase the lead to 8-3.
Later in the inning, the Chants would get back-to-back hits thanks to Cory Wood and Michael Koenig. Koenig would later steal home and Seth Lancaster hit a single to left field to bring in Wood. Woody Woodall would hit a single through the left side as Keiton Rivers would come across home plate for the eighth run of the inning. Seth Lancaster would score on a passed ball to make it 12-3 at the end of the fourth inning.
Coastal would not let up in the following inning as Skeels would hit a leadoff home run to make it 13-3. The Chants would add another two runs in the fifth and then another four runs in the sixth inning to take a 19-3 win over Wake Forest.
Skeels would finish with six RBIs and Beirmann added two more home runs to his season total, which now stands at four.
The Chanticleers are now 11-3 on the season, their best start since the 2010 season. That year, the Chanticleers would go 55-10, picking up four wins over top-25 opponents, go unbeaten in the Big South, win the Big South Tournament and would host an NCAA Super Regional. The Chants would eventually fall in back-to-back games to the South Carolina Gamecocks, who would go on and win the College World Series that year.
With the win over Wake, the Chants are now 10-3 against Wake Forest since 2008. The Chants will take on Wake Forest later this season in Winston-Salem, NC on Apr. 10.
The Chanticleers return to action this weekend, facing High Point on Friday, Mar. 9 at 4 p.m. The Chanticleers will then take on Ohio State on Saturday at 3 p.m. and again on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. before playing High Point again at 3 p.m.
