The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers men’s basketball team fell 73-66 to Texas State in the first round of the 2018 Sun Belt Tournament.
The first half was back and forth between the two sides with Coastal holding a lead for the first ten minutes of the game. While Texas State did go into the halftime break with a 32-28 lead, it seemed that neither team was going to let the other get a big lead and run away with the game.
Junior forward Zac Cuthbertson finished the first half with 10 points and three rebounds.
The second half was a completely different story.
Texas State would go on an 18-6 run in the first seven minutes of the second half to stretch their lead to 16 points.
Senior guard Jaylen Shaw would go on a scoring tirade in the second half, scoring 21 points and helped the Chanticleers get within four points with just over three minutes to go in the game. Shaw finished the day leading all scorers with 27 points and added six rebounds and three assists to his final stat line of his college career.
Texas State would hit two free throws with 58 seconds left in the game to extend their lead to 10 points, and the Chanticleers could not seem to recover as their season came to a close with a seven-point loss to the Bobcats.
The Chanticleers finished the season with a record of 14-18, the program’s first losing season since the 2012-2013 season when the team went 14-15.
