This past weekend, Coastal Carolina Baseball hosted South Alabama for a three-game series. Despite falling to the Jags in game one on Friday by a score of 11-6, Coastal bounced back and scored 26 runs across the next two games to win their third Sun Belt series.
In the first game, Coastal trailed 10-0 after five innings and while the team would put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth, it was not enough to make a comeback.
In the second game of the weekend, Coastal was itching for a win and the boys came out swinging. The fourth inning Coastal brought in seven runs thanks to a homerun by Seth Lancaster bringing in two runs and a grand slam by Keaton Weisz. Jay Causey, Sophomore pitcher, pitched a great four innings with only six hits. Coastal would take game two by a score of 14-7.
The runs did not stop there as the rubber match of the three-game series was called early in the seventh inning for a mercy rule as Coastal would shutout the Jags 12-0. Senior pitcher Zack Hopeck did a fantastic job on the mound, only getting three hits throughout the game. The boys big inning was the sixth inning were they brought in six runs and brought the game to a close.
After the games this weekend the Coastal Carolina Baseball team moved up in the D1 rankings from 24 to 21.
