Coastal Baseball wins fourth straight conference series

This past weekend, Coastal Carolina's baseball team took on Troy University. Despite losing the first game on Friday night, the Chanticleers turned things around on Saturday to take both games in the doubleheader played on Saturday, winning their fourth straight Sun Belt Conference series.
In game one on Friday, April 13, luck was not on the side of the Chanticleers as the team was down 2-0 for a majority of the game until the Chanticleers scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie things up. However, Troy would get two runs in the bottom of the eighth and would come out as 4-2 winners on Friday night.
In game two of the series, during the first game of the doubleheader, it was a constant battle between the teams for the lead. But, in the ninth inning, Coastal proved they wanted the win by bringing in two runs to come out with a 3-2 series.
In the rubber match, it was another win for the Chanticleers. Already up 1-0 in the first, Lee Sponseller hit his third grand slam of the season to put the Chants ahead by five in the first inning.
Troy would make a comeback attempt, making it 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The pitching by Matt Eardensohn was key in getting the win for the Chants. Eardensohn would throw for 4.0 innings, striking out five batters and not allowing a single walk. The Chants held their own for the final three innings of play and walked away with another series win under their belt. Keaton Weisz led the Chants out of the series with a diving catch and throw for the final out of the game.
The series win puts the Chanticleers at 26-12 on the season and 12-3 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Chanticleers are off to their best 38-game start since their 28-10 start in 2016, the year the Chanticleers won the College World Series.
The Chanticleers will be back home next weekend to take on Georgia State University with the first game being held on Friday, April 20, with first pitch at 6 p.m.
