CCU blazes UAB, 47-24

On Saturday Sept. 8, the Coastal Carolina football team played the UAB Trailblazers and cruised past them as they won the game 47-24. This is the eighth straight home opener the Chanticleers have won.
With only 43 seconds going off the clock in the first quarter, running back Marcus Outlaw ran 60 yards to the house to give Coastal an early lead at 7-0.
The Blazers would answer on their next three possessions and would eventually go up 21-7. Despite being down by two scores, the Chants did not give up and the defense started to wake up and get stops.
While the defense was getting stops, the offense was making big plays as well. Quarterback Kilton Anderson threw a 35-yard pass to wide receiver Ky’Jon Tyler and a 29-yard pitch from Anderson to running back Torrance Marable for a touchdown to cut the lead to 21-14. After a key stop by the defense, Anderson was able to come down on the next series and run for 26 yards and get the Chants within one after a missed extra point.
The score was 24-20 going into halftime.
An 11-play, 85-yard touchdown drive put the Chants back on top at 27-24 with 6:58 left in the third quarter.
The Blazers did not score in the second half and the Chants scored 20 points in the final quarter to take the game.
For the offense, Anderson was 11-of-18 for 167 yards and had three touchdowns. Outlow had a career night with 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Marable rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns.
For the defense, Jeffrey Gunter blocked a field goal attempt. Fitz Wattley, Tarron Jackson, and Silas Kelly all finished the game with eight tackles. Jackson ended with 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries. C.J. Brewer along with Gunter finished with 1.5 tackles for loss.
The Chants improve to 1-1 on the season and look to continue their win streak against Campbell.
Originally, Coastal’s game versus Campbell was supposed to be this Saturday, Sep. 15 at 7 p.m. in Conway. However, due to the arrival of Hurricane Florence to our coasts, the game has been moved.
Coastal Carolina will play against Campbell today at 2 p.m. in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Anyone who purchased a game ticket for this weekend’s game can call the Coastal Carolina Ticket Office and they will get a ticket for a future 2018 Coastal Carolina home game.
