Coastal Carolina reschedules Education Abroad Expo

Coastal Carolina University is preparing to hold an Education Abroad Expo in the Lib Jackson Student Union.

Education abroad alumni, program partners and internship providers will be in attendance to answer questions and share their experiences! If you are unable to attend, you can still learn about the program and all applications can be completed through the school's website at www.coastal.edu/educationabroad.

Coastal Carolina partners with third-party program providers and exchange programs in over 30 countries; from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom to University of Cape Coast in Ghana. Each university offers a variety of classes, geared toward different majors.

Rachel Massey, Director of Education Abroad, reiterates how studying abroad is open for everyone.

“Education abroad is not exclusive to foreign language scholars,” said Massey. “Right now, there are 27 Chants spending the Fall 2018 semester abroad, making progress toward degrees in Marine Science, Marketing, Theater Arts, Comm, Intel, HRTM, and more.”

Education abroad isn’t limited to studies during the school year either! Coastal Carolina is also connected with international organizations such as Intern Abroad HQ, which provide internships for students, allowing them to build connections and work experience in their future careers.

There are also Faculty-led programs that take place in the Maymester and during spring break.

“This year, 17 different faculty-led programs are available during spring break and the Maymester term,” said Massey.

A concern for many in regard to education abroad is cost. There are scholarships in place from Coastal and third-party partners as well as financial aid, which can cover certain costs. Make sure to talk to Chrystal Medley in the office of Financial Aid and Scholarships when applying for education abroad and look online for applications to see which one is the best fit for you.

Education abroad is a beneficial experience for students regardless of major and according to Massey, can even result in, “higher starting salaries, improved language and communication skills, a deepened commitment to learning, and higher grades.”

It’s never too early to think about expanding your connections and gaining more experience in your future career field.

Due to Hurricane Florence, the Study Abroad Expo that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Sep. 12, has been postponed until Oct. 3.
