Coastal handles Hampton

On Wednesday, Dec. 5th, Coastal Carolina’s men’s basketball team defeated Hampton University by a final score of 75-66.
To the surprise of no one, the Chanticleers were led offensively by senior forward Zac Cuthberson, who scored a team high 22 points and added 12 rebounds to record his third straight double-double and fifth of the season. He was joined in double figure scoring by junior Tyrell Gumbs-Frater with 12 points, senior Ajay Sadners with 11 points, and sophomore Trevion Brown with 10 points.
The Chanticleers out-rebounded Hampton 46-39, and shot an impressive 50% from the field, going 27-54 as a team. While Hampton bested Coastal from the free throw line shooting, 71.4% to Coastal’s 66.7%, the Chanticleers shot better overall and better from three-point range, 26.3% to 22.9%.
Hampton was led in scoring by junior guard Jermaine Marrow, who dropped 24 points on 24 shots.
While the final score margin was in single digits, the Chanticleers controlled the score for most of the game, taking a 7-6 lead in the early going and never trailing after that. Coastal’s highest lead of the game was their 19 point lead in the second half.
Coastal Carolina cracked the .500 mark as it improved to 5-4 on the season, while Hampton University fell to 3-6
