Coastal baseball ends CCU Baseball Tournament with walk-off win

The No. 19 ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleer baseball team went a perfect 3-0 over the weekend during the CCU Baseball Tournament hosted at Springs Brooks Stadium. CCU defeated No. 25 Illinois, UCONN, and Indiana.
On Friday, Mar. 1, the Chanticleers picked up an 11-3 win over No. 25 Illinois thanks to a combination of strong pitching and an offensive explosion.
Outfielder Keaton Rivers hit a 3-run homerun and Third Baseman Keaton Wiesz added a 2-run shot of his own to spark the Chanticleer offense. Kyle Skeels, Jared Johnson, Cameron Pearcey, and Nick Lucky contributed with RBIs in the win.
Starting Pitcher Zach McCambley had a solid outing as he went 5.0 innings while allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out four to pick up the win.
Illinois Starter Andy Fisher took the loss as he gave up six runs on six hits while walking three and striking out two over 4.1 innings of work.
The following day was a rematch of the 2018 Conway Regional match versus Connecticut. The Chanticleers got their ninth win of the season by a score of 10-7 in a back-and-forth game against the Huskies.
The Chanticleers starter, Anthony Veneziano, gave up seven runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out four over 4.1 innings. He was lifted in the 5th and replaced by Matt Eardensohn, who went 4.2 scoreless innings out the bullpen while giving up a mere one hit, walking one, and striking out a career-high seven batters while picking up the win.
Outfielder Kieton Rivers led the offense as he went 2-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Zach Biermann, Kyle Skeels, Jared Johnson, and Scott McKeon added RBIs in the win.
Jimmy Wang took the loss for UCONN as he gave up five runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two in 1.1 innings of work from the bullpen.
The Chanticleers ended the weekend in a wild finish over the Indiana Hoosiers thanks to three runs in the bottom of the ninth to nab a walk-off win over the Hoosiers.
Jared Johnson delivered with a 2-run, walk-off single to left-center field in the 9th to drive in the game-tying and go-ahead runs for The Chanticleers.
Trevor Damron picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief across the 8th and 9th innings.
Four players for the Chanticleers had two hits; Corey Wood, Scott McKeon, Keaton Weisz, and Parker Chavers each went 2-4 on the night.
Grant Sloan took the loss for Indiana, as he eetered the game in the 9th and walked one before giving up the game-winning hit to Johnson.
The Chanticleers moved to 10-2 on the season and will host Wake Forest on Tuesday, March 5. First pitch is slated for 4p.m.
