No. 10 Coastal Carolina faced off against University of North Carolina Wilmington in a home-and-home series in which they their game at UNCW, but came back to pick up the win at Spring Brooks Stadium.
No. 10 Coastal Carolina fell to University of North Carolina Wilmington by a final score of 5-4 in walk-off fashion. Outfielder Kieton Rivers tied the game for the Chants with a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth, however Doug Angeli lined an RBI base hit in the bottom of the ninth to give the Seahawks the victory.
Coastal Carolina was able to grind out nine base hits on the day, with Cameron Pearcey and Kieton Rivers each having multi-hit games. However, the bats were quiet when it counted as Coastal stranded 11 men on base as they went 5-20 as a team with runners on base.
Closer Alaska Abney suffered the loss as he came into the game in the eighth inning an giving up an unearned run for on three hits and two strikeouts over his 1.1 innings. UNCW reliever Ryan Henry got the win as he also pitched 1.1 innings while giving up one run on one hit, walking two and striking out three.
The loss moved CCU to 18-6-1 on the season, while UNC improved to 15-10 with the victory.
No. 10 Coastal Carolina cruised to a 9-2 victory over University of North Carolina Wilmington at Spring Brooks Stadium on Wednesday night thanks to two home runs by outfielder Kieton Rivers and a marvelous performance from starting pitcher Anthony Veneziano.
Rivers drove in five runs on the first multi-homer game of his career as he proved to be the spark in a Chanticleer offense that tallied 10 hits on the night. CCU starter matched his career-high in strikeouts (9) as he picked up the win thanks to his 7.0 complete innings in which he gave up only two runs on three hits and one walk.
UNCW starter Zarion Sharpe was handed the loss as he gave up six runs on four hits in a mere 3.0 innings of work. While he only lasted 3.0 innings, he did strike out five while only walking one.
CCU improved to 19-6-1 on the season and will host Arkansas State for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 29. First pitch is at 6 p.m. ET.
