Chanticleer baseball blows three-run lead as losing streak hits three games

On Tuesday, April 16 the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers fell to the College of Charleston Cougars at Spring Brooks Stadium in Conway, SC by a final score of 13-6.

Coastal took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning, where the signs of a collapse began. The Cougars scored five unanswered runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to go up 5-3, however the Chants bounced back for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake the lead 6-5. In the very next inning, Charleston added four runs and then tacked on four more in the top of the ninth to go up 13-6 thanks to eight unanswered runs.

CCU reliever Trevor Damron suffered the loss as he gave up four runs on three hits while walking one and striking out two in a mere 0.2 innings.

The loss marks the third straight defeat for a Chanticleers team who has struggled in all facets of the game over the past few weeks. In what is becoming an ugly trend, Coastal was outhit for the game 19-7, with Cameron Pearcey being the only Chanticleer to tally multiple hits on the day as he went 2-4.

Cougar pitcher Zach Williams improved to 2-3 on the season as he picked up the win thanks to his 5.0 solid innings of work in which he gave up three runs on three hits while walking two and striking out three.

Coastal fell to 23-14-1 with the loss and they look to get back on track as they welcome Georgia Southern into town for a three game series beginning on Thursday, April 18. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
