Coastal baseball's struggles continue with 6-1 loss to No. 15 UNC

Coastal Carolina fell to the 15th-ranked UNC Tar Heels by a final score of 6-1 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Offensively, first baseman Zach Biermann accounted for the lone Coastal Carolina score with a solo homerun in the top of the eighth inning. Other than Biermann’s solo jack, the offense was stymied by UNC pitching as they stranded six runners on base and scattered five hits throughout the contest. Corey Wood, Kieton Rivers, Kyle Skeels, and Mike Koenig each contributed a hit on the night to round out the five total hits that Coastal registered.
Freshman CCU starter Nick Parker shouldered the loss as he went 5.0 innings giving up four runs on five hits while walking two and striking out four.
The win went to North Carolina starter Andrew Grogan as he allowed a here one run on five hits over 7.2 innings. He struck out three, walked zero, and hit one batter on the night en route to picking up his third win of the season.
The Chanticleers have now lost six of their last seven games.
During those seven games, the Chanticleers have allowed 60 runs. Coastal has allowed five or more runs in their last seven games, with 10 or more runs being scored three times in the last seven games.
The loss dropped the struggling Chanticleers to 24-17-1 on the season.
With less than a month left in the season, Gary Gilmore’s crew needs to get back on track, and they need to do it soon. That journey begins on Friday, April 26 as Coastal travels to Georgia State for a three game series. First pitch is at 6 p.m. ET.
