Coastal baseball gets much-needed series win over the weekend

Coastal Carolina traveled to Georgia over the weekend to take on the Georgia State Panthers, where the struggling Chanticleers picked up a much needed series win.

 

April 26


The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers routed the Georgia State Panthers 27-2 thanks to their season-high 27 runs. 

 

To call the game an “offensive explosion” is an understatement, as the Chants tallied 21 runs in the game, and had four innings where they scored five or more runs, with their biggest inning coming in their nine run seventh inning.

 

Zach Biermann hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, while Cameron Pearcey added a three-run homerun. TwelveCoastal hitters drove in at least one run in the 22 run victory.

 

CCU reliever Alaska Abney picked up the win as he went 2.0 innings in which he struck out four. Coastal used four total pitchers in the contest, and they combined to strike out 13 batters while only walking a total of five.

 

Georgia State pitcher Seth Clark suffered the loss as he went a mere 0.1 inning in which he walked four batters and gave up four runs while giving up no hits.

It took 10 innings, but the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers topped the Georgia State Panthers by a final score of 6-5 to pick up their 26th win of the season.

 

Morgan Hyde came up big in the clutch as he delivered an RBI single in the top of the 10th to push across the Chanticleers sixth run of the night and propel them to victory.

 

Parker Chavers hit a two-run homerun to highlight the 14 hit night for CCU, who doubled the Panthers in the hit column 14-7.

 

Zach McCambley picked up the win for Coastal as he came out of the bullpen with the bases loaded and managed to give up only one run over 4.2 innings of work.

 

The loss fell to Georgia State pitcher Brandon Bell as he gave up a run on one hit, two strikeouts, and one walk over 1.1 innings.

 

April 28
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers could not finish off the sweep as they fell to Georgia State by a final score of 15-11.

 

Despite the loss, the Chanticleers had one of their better offensive games of the season as Kieton Rivers recorded five hits in six at-bats. Mike Koenig added a three hit night – including a homerun – while Scott McKeon and Jake Wright each added two hits on the night.

 

Alaska Abney was handed the loss for CCU as he gave up 10 runs over 6.0 innings on four walks and six strikeouts.

 

Georgia State pitcher Trey Horton got the win with 4.0 innings of one run ball in which he struck out five and walked four.

 

After picking up the series win, Coastal will have some time off until they host the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns from May 3-5 at Spring Brooks Stadium.
