CCU women's lacrosse looks to move past loss in final regular season


The Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse team travelled to Elon, North Carolina on Sunday, April 28 to take on the Elon Phoenix in their final game of the 2019 regular season.

Coastal battled with Elon from start to finish but they were unable to secure a win in the end. Senior Madeline Bromley was the first to score a goal in the game and put Coastal on the board early in. Elon came back with five quick goals, putting them ahead early in the game. At the end of the first half, it was the Phoenix leading the Chanticleers 6-5,

Lyla Robinson from Coastal was the first to score in the second half and brought the game to a tie within the first two minutes of the second half. Coastal was able to take the lead of the game in the middle of the second half. Hannah Close scored a goal putting Coastal at a one-point lead. Robinson would further that lead with another goal, less than a minute later.

The game was tied 13-13 in the last two minutes of the game, but Elon was able to score two goals during that time, resulting in a 15-13 loss for the Chanticleers.

Bromley was able to score four goals during her last regular season ASUN game. Harley Barrett, senior goalie, had nine saves during the game.

The Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse team will be hosting the ASUN Championship at Brooks Stadium on Thursday, May 2.

The Chanticleers will take on Liberty University at 4 p.m. in the second semifinal of the ASUN Conference tournament. The Chants faced Liberty back on Mar. 31 when the Lady Flames stunned the Lady Chanticleers with a goal in the final minute to steal an 11-10 win at Brooks Stadium.

The final ASUN conference game will be played at Brooks Stadium on Saturday, May 4.
