Coastal softball swept by #8 Louisiana-Lafayette


The Coastal Carolina Softball team travelled to Lafayette, La. on Friday, April 26 to play the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

The first game against Louisiana looked like it was going to be a shut-out game. Coastal was unable to get on the board until the seventh inning when they were able to bring in two runs. Kaitlin Beasley-Polko, sophomore pitcher, pitched all six innings, only allowing seven hits and five runs.

The Chants had bases loaded and were down 5-2 but could not make the comeback happen.

The Ragin' Cajuns ran away with the second game against the Chanticleers on Saturday, April 27, winning 8-0 in five innings

Coastal struggled with hitting the ball during the second game with no runs scored and two hits. Ashley Guillette, senior, pitched for the duration of the game and allowed for nine hits and eight runs.

The Chanticleers faced ULL for a third and final game on Sunday, April 28. The third game was the closest of the weekend, with a final score of 3-2.

Kassidy Smith started the day off with a homerun to left field, putting Coastal on the board first. Coastal was able to score again in the second inning putting them at two. However, LA would tie the game in the bottom of the second inning and held Coastal from scoring again for the rest of the game.

The Cajuns scored again in the bottom of the sixth, putting them in the lead till the end of the game. Beasley-Polko pitched all six innings of the game allowing for seven hits but only three runs.

Coastal currently sits at sixth overall in the Sun Belt Conference.

The Chanticleers will host Appalachian State University this weekend for a three-game series, starting on May 2 at 4 p.m. This will be the last home series of the 2019 season.
