CCU hosts annual Greek Day

During the 2019-2020 semester kick off, Coastal Carolina University hosted its annual Coastal Greek Day. The event took place on Aug. 28 from 10 AM to 2 PM. Affiliated sorority and fraternity chapters set up tents around Prince Lawn and held informational sessions for students interested in joining.

This traditional event provides students the opportunity to meet members of each organization and learn more about a chapter’s values and membership process. Coastal Greek Day is hosted shortly before recruitment begins for most organizations. Currently, CCU has seven active sororities which are part of the College Panhellenic Council. These organizations include Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Kappa, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Phi Sigma Sigma. The council will start formal recruitment on Saturday, Sept. 7 and it will conclude on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

CCU also has seven active fraternities that are part of the Interfraternity Council. The council hosts organizations including Alpha Sigma Phi, Kappa Alpha Order, Kappa Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha, Pi Kappa Phi, Phi Gamma Delta, and Sigma Phi Epsilon. Its recruitment process begins on Sunday, Sept. 8 and lasts until Thursday, Sept. 12. Students interested in participating in the official recruitment process are required to register online. The link can be found on Coastal Carolina’s Fraternity and Sorority Life page under the tab ‘“How to Join.”

Coastal Carolina’s Greek life includes six organizations which are active in the National Pan-Hellenic Council. These organizations consist of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Visit CCU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life webpage to access more information on each of these organizations and what is required for their membership intake.
