CCU beats Georgia State at away game

Coastal Carolina University continued their winning streak with a 51-0 win over Georgia State, improving to 6-0, on Sat. Oct. 31.

The win moved the Chanticleers higher up on the AP rankings to No.15.

This was the most complete and dominant performance of the season for the Chanticleers. The offense, defense, and special teams all did their job when given the chance.

Grayson McCall finished with 254 yards and four touchdowns, and completed 18 of his 24 attempts. He also rushed six times for 15 yards and another touchdown. The redshirt freshman scored five total touchdowns in just over three quarters of playing time, as he was taken out to prevent injury in the fourth quarter.

Coastal finished the game with 47 rushing attempts between an eye-opening, 10 different runners. The ground game was led by CJ Marable, who rushed 10 times for 71 yards and a touchdown. The running back also caught three passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.

The “Black Swarm Defense”, as ESPN calls it, was outstanding for the Chanticleers as they limited Georgia State to only 106 total yards of offense. Defender Silas Kelly also intercepted Georgia State Quarterback, Cornelious Brown IV, one time, bringing the Chanticleers season interception total up to eight. The Chants defense also tallied three sacks bringing the team total for the season to 20.

The Chanticleers look to continue their dominance of the Sun Belt Conference. The 15 ranked Chanticleers will also be looking to move up in the AP rankings.
